Existing Framework
Introduction
The initial post-qualifying framework was developed by the Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work (CCETSW) in consultation with government bodies, the statutory and voluntary social work sectors, educational institutions and trade union interests and was published in 1991.
Aims

The framework provides a structure within which all qualified social workers can participate in a variety of continuing development opportunities.  There are four main aims:

  • to recognise and validate the professional development of qualified social workers;
  • to ensure common minimum standards across a wide variety of post qualifying social work education and training, in different sectors and settings;
  • to provide structures for post qualifying social work education and training, in different sectors and settings;
  • to provide structures for post qualifying education and training which are flexible and responsible to the changing needs of service delivery and different career pathways.
The framework consists of the Post Qualifying Award in Social Work (PQSW) (Part I/PQ1 and Part II/PQ2-6) and the Advanced Award in Social Work (AASW).
