These requirements are drawn from the Guidance for Assessment of Practice in the Workplace developed jointly by Skills for Care and the General Social Care Council (GSCC). It is intended to put in place a framework of generic statements or benchmarks which define and describe the core activities involved in assessing the practice of others, irrespective of the purpose of the assessment. It is designed to be used by training and education providers to identify the competence of individuals to assess candidates’ practice. It can also be used for workforce development purposes to identify the competence required by those involved in performance appraisal and confirmation of continuing role competence for registration and continuing professional development (CPD) purposes. It will therefore be of particular interest to those involved in work-based assessment in relation to education and training, but may also have relevance to managers in performance assessment and the analysis of training and development needs.
The statements are grouped in three domains:
Domain A
Organise opportunities for the demonstration of assessed competence in practice.
Domain B
Enabling learning and professional development in practice.
