| SPECIALIST SOCIAL WORK - Competence in depth in a specific area of practice |
Programmes at specialist level will:
- be able to register students immediately after qualification;
- address each of the 11 criteria set out in GSCC Framework for this level award;
- be assessed at minimum at Level III - leading to a degree or graduate diploma;
- have AP(E)L arrangements to take account of achievements in the current framework.

| HIGHER SPECIALIST SOCIAL WORK - Complex decision making & professional responsibility |
Programmes at higher specialist level will:
- accept PQSW as the entry requirement to this level;
- address each of the 9 criteria set out in GSCC Framework for this level award;
- be assessed to Level M - leading to a postgraduate diploma.

Programmes at advanced level will:
- address each of the 10 criteria set out in GSCC Framework for this level award;
- build on higher specialist programmes;
- be assessed at Level M - leading to a master's degree.
